The Mooncake Gambling Game
This Moon-cake (also named "Zhuang-yuan Cake") gambling custom has been a part of Minnan culture for at least 300 years so far. This unique custom tacitly transforms a simple dice game into a game, which encourages people to pursue a higher rank in the ancient imperial examination.
All the "Bo Bing" games require six dices and a china bowl. Just throw the dice into the bowl - and the different pips you get stand for different ranks of awards you will win.
The month-long grand festival attracted thousands of participants from Fujian, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao as well as people from some Southeast Asian countries.
TOPPLA held the activities on Nov. this year. During every Mid-Autumn festival, family members and friends will gather in a circle who are eager to play this game. The strategy of getting Zhuang yuan, the highest among all six ranks, on the very first roll of the die, is both entertaining and educational. This is also one of the Moon-cake gambling legendary events during the Mid-Autumn festival.
